WEEKLY DEVOTION

Scripture: Luke 2:10–11 — “Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.”
As Christmas approaches, our calendars fill and our days blur with decorating, shopping, gatherings, and traditions. Yet at the center of it all is a quiet, breathtaking truth: God Himself came near.
Advent is the season of anticipation—not just remembering that Christ came, but rekindling our longing for Him to come into our hearts and lives anew. Just as Israel waited for centuries for the promised Messiah, we wait with expectant hope for His presence to break into our ordinary days.
Think of the way a child waits for Christmas morning—eyes shining, heart racing, counting down the days. God invites us to wait for Jesus with that same wonder. Not anxious waiting, but joyful anticipation. The Savior comes not to the strong, the impressive, or the put-together—but to the humble, the weary, the searching.
When the angel announced good news to the shepherds, it wasn’t an announcement of tasks, pressure, or perfection. It was an announcement of joy. Joy because Christ had come for all people. Joy because God kept His promises. Joy because a Savior had arrived for us.
So as you move through this season, pause often. Breathe. Let your heart lean forward in expectation. In the quiet moments, whisper a simple prayer of welcome: “Come, Lord Jesus. Come into my thoughts, my home, my Christmas, and my life.”
For the Christ child who came in Bethlehem still comes to us today—bringing peace, hope, and the promise of God with us.
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, as Christmas draws near, prepare our hearts to receive You again with joy. Clear away the clutter of our worries and distractions. Fill us with wonder, hope, and a childlike anticipation of Your presence. Come, Lord Jesus. Amen
