WEEKLY DEVOTION

Lent is a season of invitation. For forty days, we are called to slow down, to examine our hearts, and to return—fully and honestly—to God. It is not merely a time to give something up, but a time to make room. Room for repentance. Room for renewal. Room for deeper communion with Christ.

In Joel 2:13, we hear the call: “Return to the Lord your God, for he is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and abounding in love.” Lent reminds us that repentance is not about shame—it is about coming home. We turn away from distractions, sins, and self-reliance, and we turn toward the One whose mercy never fails.

The forty days mirror Jesus’ forty days in the wilderness. In that place of testing, Jesus fasted, prayed, and resisted temptation. Likewise, our Lenten practices—whether fasting, prayer, or generosity—are not about spiritual performance. They train our hearts to hunger for what truly satisfies. When we feel the absence of what we’ve given up, we are reminded of our deeper need for God.

Lent also leads us toward the cross. It invites us to sit with the weight of Christ’s sacrifice, to remember the cost of grace. Yet it is never without hope. The sorrow of Lent prepares us for the joy of Easter. We walk through repentance into resurrection.

As you journey through this season, ask yourself:

What is God inviting me to release?

Where is He calling me to return?

How can I draw nearer to the heart of Christ?

May this Lent be a time of honest reflection, quiet surrender, and renewed love—so that when Easter dawns, your heart is ready to rejoice in the fullness of His resurrection life.
