WEEKLY DEVOTION
Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.” – Ephesians 4:32 (NIV)
This next Sunday we are going to be talking about forgiveness in our message here at Campbellsville First Cumberland Presbyterian Church. So today I just want to touch a little on what forgiveness looks like.
Forgiveness is not always easy. When we’ve been hurt, betrayed, or wronged, our natural instinct is often to hold on to the pain. But unforgiveness is like a chain that binds us—not the one who hurt us. It traps us in bitterness, resentment, and emotional weight that keeps us from moving forward.
The Bible calls us to forgive just as Christ forgave us. That’s a high calling. Jesus didn’t wait for us to deserve forgiveness. He offered it freely, fully, and lovingly—while we were still sinners (Romans 5:8).
When we forgive, we reflect the heart of God. Forgiveness doesn’t mean we excuse wrong or forget what happened. It means we release the burden of judgment and entrust justice to God. It’s a choice to let go so healing can begin.
Forgiveness is not a feeling—it’s an act of obedience. And often, it’s the very key that unlocks peace and restoration in our lives. Is there someone you need to forgive today? Ask God for the strength to take that first step.
Prayer: Lord, thank You for the forgiveness You’ve shown me through Jesus. Help me to release bitterness and extend grace to others, even when it’s hard. Teach me to forgive as You have forgiven me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
