For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” — Ephesians 2:10 (NIV)
In a world that constantly tells us to “find ourselves,” many people struggle with a deep question: What is my purpose? We chase careers, relationships, achievements, and experiences, hoping they’ll give our lives meaning. But often, these things leave us feeling empty or unsure. The truth is, we were never meant to define our purpose apart from the One who created us.
Ephesians 2:10 reminds us that we are God’s handiwork—His masterpiece. We were not randomly made or accidentally placed on this earth. We were created in Christ Jesus—that is, our identity and purpose are found in Him. Through a relationship with Jesus, we discover that our purpose isn’t just about doing more, but about being who God made us to be: His beloved, His witness, His servant.
When we walk with Jesus, He begins to shape our hearts and direct our steps. The good works He calls us to aren’t tasks to earn His love—they’re expressions of the love and grace we’ve already received. Purpose is not a destination but a journey of daily surrender, listening to His voice, and trusting that He is leading us exactly where we need to be.
Are you seeking your purpose apart from Jesus? What would it look like to surrender your plans and let Him lead? Spend time in prayer, asking God to show you how He wants to use your life for His glory.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, I confess that I’ve often tried to find my purpose on my own. But I believe that You created me with intention and love. Help me to trust You, to follow You, and to walk in the purpose You’ve prepared for me. Use my life to reflect Your grace and truth. Amen.
